Coconut leather – the vegan wallet with style and responsibility
Leather has been a proven material for bags, belts, and wallets for centuries. However, not everyone wants to use products of animal origin. For all those who prefer to Sustainability, Animal welfare and Plastic-free pay attention, we offer at Fa. Volmer a modern, convincing alternative: Coconut leather.
Was ist Kokosleder?
Kokosleder is an innovative, plant-based material derived from the fibers of the coconut. It is not only vegan, but also biodegradable and is often combined with natural binders – completely without synthetic plastic. It feels surprisingly high-quality, is durable, flexible, and visually hardly distinguishable from genuine leather.

Advantages of coconut leather compared to cork and synthetic leather
Coconut leather is an innovative, plant-based material made from the fibers of the coconut shell – a byproduct of the food industry. Compared to cork or conventional synthetic leather, it offers several key advantages:
Coconut leather is more durable and long-lasting than cork, which can easily become brittle or cracked with frequent use. At the same time, it feels more natural and looks less technical or synthetic than many plastic-based faux leather alternatives. While faux leather is often petroleum-based and may contain microplastics, it is Kokos leather biodegradable and free from animal or petrochemical components.
In addition, coconut leather impresses with its textured, leather-like surface, which appears high-quality both visually and to the touch. It is easy to work with, breathable, and thus offers a genuine alternative for everyone who values sustainability, quality, and animal-friendliness – without compromising on everyday practicality.
Disadvantages of coconut leather
- Somewhat stiffer than genuine leather: Especially with new products, coconut leather feels firmer and requires a certain "breaking-in period" to become more supple.
- Limited color selection: Da Kokosleder is often treated with natural dyes, the color palette is more limited compared to synthetic faux leather – especially with very strong, vibrant tones.
- Lower heat resistance: Strong sunlight or high temperatures over a long period can dry out or discolor the material.
- No mass production yet: Coconut leather is a comparatively young material. This means: higher production costs, limited availability, and fewer variants compared to established materials like synthetic or genuine leather.
